2008 Verdelho, Melanto Terrace $7.98 net, $7.18 reorder
Talk about small production; 300 measly cases of this Cali Verdelho were produced, and when we tasted it, we went ape to get it into our DD! This wine is not just for wine geeks who have worn their palates out on oaky Chardonnays and such; it is for wine lovers of all kinds. Peaches and apricots and balance and yum … tee it up with something that swims.

NV Sparkling Vouvray, Domaine d’Orfeuilles $16.98 net, $15.28 reorder
Put a little fizz in your life! We are so happy to be importing this sparkler from the Loire Valley. It’s dry and has a white fruit profile that is framed by the famed Vouvray mineral terroir. Sure, bubbles are great for celebrations, but this one has so much more potential; howzabout breaded chicken cutlets and crisp, salty chips?

2008 Chardonnay, Red Tail Ridge $11.98 net, $10.78 reorder
On the western shore of Lake Seneca in upstate New York, husband/wife team Mike Schnell and Nancy Irelan have turned what was once a rocky thicket full of scrub trees into a thriving vineyard. Keeping their production low, they’re turning out some mighty fine wines for a mighty fair price. Take this unoaked Chardonnay: crisp, lipsmacking fruit.

NV Mediterranean White, Rene Barbier $5.98 net, $5.38 reorder
Okay, talk about a steal! This three grape blend of Xarel-lo, Macabeo, and Parellada offers up a delightful array of apple and pineapple nuance with a citrusy twist. Pair it with a spring salad and you’ve got yourself a winner.

2008 Gruner Veltliner Liter, Schwarzbock $12.98 net, $11.68 reorder
In liter format, no less, we just can’t get enough of this wine. Apparently, neither can many of you, as it doesn’t seem to stay in stock very long. It has a crisp, zippy profile with hints of herbs and pepper. Great with asparagus!

2009 Rose ‘Only Girls’, Domaine d’Or et des Gueles $10.99, $8.79 reorder
Fresh off the boat from our superstar winemaker Diane Puymorin, is her Rose made from 100% Cinsault. Dry, light, and crisp, this is the kind of Rose one would expect to get in a cafe in the south of France. Pair it with a sunny day.

2008 Shiraz, Essay $8.98 net, $8.08 reorder
Yes, South Africa is hosting the World Cup next month, but let’s not forget they’ve been making wine there for centuries. One thing’s for sure, there are some great bargains out there; count this as one of them! A hint of pepper combines beautifully with the plummy notes of this medium bodied red. Enjoy it with those slow cooked ribs!

2007 Rubystone, Ventana $12.98 net, $11.68 reorder
The rocky soil and deep color of this wine gives it its name. Grown in the Arroyo Seco appellation in Monterey County, this is quintessential California red wine. It has plenty of structure and deep black cherry fruit. Seems to be a perfect one to serve with those grilled lamburgers …

2008 Sola Fred, Celler el Masroig $10.98 net, $9.88 reorder
From the up and coming region of Montsant in Spain comes this co-op produced red blend of 90% Carinena and 10% Garnacha. The co-op keeps the best grapes for itself, and sells the rest off (much of it to well known producers). So what we have here is yet another quality-for-less offering. Pair it with simple Spanish fare, like grilled octopus.

2005 Cotes du Ventoux ‘O Sud’, Domaine Fondreche $13.99, $11.19 reorder
Sebastien Vincenti’s vineyard is in the sweet spot of the Cotes du Ventoux. This opulent Rhone-style blend is a House Favorite, and another great quality/price buster. It has a pretty array of purple fruit, a hint of pepper, it is medium weighted, and it goes with a wide range of cuisine: everything from duck pappardelle to pizza with sausage and olives.

2008 Chateau Couronneau Rouge $14.98 net, $13.48 reorder
We’ve been importing the wines from Chateau Couronneau for over 10 years now! Their wines are a huge hit with staff and customers alike. Made from 100% Merlot in the northeast corner of Bordeaux, the Piats farm organically and have been certified since 2001. We’re beginning to see, more and more, what the fuss over 2008 Bordeaux is about. This wine is BRIMMING with opulent fruit while still retaining that rustic nuance that this chateau is known for. Say, if it’s a nice day, and you’ve got the grill going, and you have a bottle of 2008 Couronneau, we hope you have a rib-eye handy!

2005 Cabernet Sauvignon, Domaine des Cantarelles $15.99, $12.79 reorder
One of our favorite producers from the south of France, the Cab/Syrahs from Cantarelles are teeming with complexity. Their usual blend is 60/40, but in this great vintage, the Cabernet Sauvignon was so good that they included 85% of it. It has great balance, finesse, and a dense earthiness that will make you glad it’s national barbeque month!
