2015 Minervois Blanc, Château Paraza $12.98 net price, $11.68 reorder
The Danglas family purchased the famous Château de Paraza ten years ago. In that short time, they have brought the property and wine back to its former glory. A blend of 60% Roussanne and 40% Grenache Blanc, this snappy white is full of delicate floral aromas and finishes with flavors of white peach; a great choice for fish tacos, ceviche, or Pizza Bianco.

2014 Pecorino, I Fauri $15.98 net price, $14.38 reorder
Pecorino is found grown along Italy’s eastern coastal regions. Dry and minerally, this white has floral and citrus notes with a flinty aroma that borders on minty-ness. After tasting this with staff, the decision was made to double our order. We anticipate many reorders, plus we wanted to make sure there was enough stock for us too! Try with Fritto Misto!

2015 Jongieux, Carrel $12.98 net price, $11.68 reorder
Jongieux is a named cru within the Savoie appellation. In this Alpine region you will find whites made from the Jacquère grape that are grown at high altitude. Low in alcohol, this Jongieux is fresh and zippy with flavors of ripe pear and citrus. Serve chilled as an aperitif or tote along on your next trip to the coast to have with some raw oysters.

2013 Côtes-du-Rhône Blanc, Domaine Boudinaud $7.95 sale price, $7.55 reorder
TWH pals Thierry and Véronique Boudinaud have several irons in the fire in and around the southern Rhône Valley. This CdR Blanc is made from 60% Grenache Blanc and 40% Roussanne, and it shows fleshy yellow fruit with a crisp finish. It’s an easy wine to just pop and pour. Put a nice chill on this and serve it up with a seared Ahi tuna BLT.


2014 Bush Vine Chenin Blanc, The Winery of Good Hope $13.49, $10.79 reorder
This is 100% Chenin Blanc is from old bush vines planted in decomposed granite in the Helderberg area of Stellenbosch, facing the ocean. Those ocean breezes keep the fruit relatively cool and fresh, lending balancing acidity to the tangy, voluptuous, green apple-like fruit. So grab an ice bucket, head outdoors, and enjoy it over a long balmy evening!


2016 À Lisa VDP du Var, Domaine des Aspras $12.99, $10.39 reorder
The more we taste the wines from Domaine des Aspras, the more we love what is going on there. In brief, the family fled Germany in the 1930’s, and settled in Congo, only to flee once again, this time to Provence in the 1960’s. They quickly learned how to make wine, and with modern ingenuity, the next generation produces some of the best values in our bins.


2016 Rouge, Guilhelm Moulin de Gassac $10.98 net price, $9.88 reorder
A four grape blend from vines that range in age from 25-50 years old, this red is hearty and brimming with fruit. All tank fermented and devoid of any oak treatment, this is a humble wine made by the folks behind the legendary Languedoc winery, Mas de Gaussac. Take inspiration from any cuisine found along the Mediterranean Sea when pairing up this red.


2015 Pinot Noir, Wonderwall $17.98 net price, $16.18 reorder
And just like that, our best-selling California Pinot Noir ends up in the DD. It’s a tremendous value from winemaker Andrew Jones who claims to have stood in every vineyard on the Central Coast. The grapes come from two vineyards with close proximity to the Pacific Ocean. Strawberry and cherry flavors persist. Try it with lamb, pork, or turkey burgers.


2014 Zinfandel, Foxglove $14.98 net price, $13.48 reorder
Brothers Bob and Jim Varner make this affordable and delicious Zinfandel from fruit grown in Paso Robles. Juicy and vibrant with brambly fruit notes, though not a wimpy wine, it is a tad less bombastic than most Paso Zins. If outside temperatures spike, don’t be afraid to give this red a slight chill to keep flavors popping. It’s magnificent with bbq ribs.

2015 Dolcetto d’Alba, Aurelio Settimo $15.99, $12.79 reorder
Barolo winemaker Tiziana Settimo worked with her father, Aurelio, for 20 years before taking over a decade ago. While Nebbiolo plantings dominate her family’s holdings, she continues to tend to her 1 hectare of Dolcetto. It’s juicy and grapey with bright acidity and easy tannins. Pour this with ricotta-stuffed squash blossoms smothered in red sauce.


2015 Ventoux Rouge, Tour de l’Isle $13.49, $10.79 reorder
No doubt, many of you have enjoyed wines from this negociant-like producer in the southern Rhône Valley. Robert Rocchi works with a handful of growers in the region and bottles each wine with his own Tour de l’Isle label. Rocchi is not afraid to make wines that taste good. Case in point this lovely Ventoux rouge. This has backyard bbq written all over it.


2014 Château Bellevue la Randée $9.98 net price, $8.98 reorder
Speaking of backyard bbq, this red Bordeaux wine comes from the stable of Jean-Luc Thunevin, one of the original Bordeaux garagiste winemakers, whose top wine can sell for over $200! But this is the DD, and this month, we include Jean-Luc’s entry-level red, which is also perfect for the outdoor grill. Spare ribs, steaks, and chops can be enjoyed here.

2012 Chardonnay HIP, Hedges $13.98 net price, $12.58 reorder
A fantastic value for domestic Chardonnay, this Washington State white is crisp and lively made in an unoaked, Chablis style. All of the fruit comes from the Dionysus vineyard, planted in 1973 on the east side of the Columbia River. Expect snappy apple flavors and a clean finish. Serve with grilled chicken, fried calamari or Baja fish tacos.

2013 Aligoté, Domaine Fichet $14.98 net price, $13.48 reorder
Domaine Fichet broke away from the local co-op to make wine on their own beginning in 1976. Situated in Igé, just north of Mâcon, Fichet planted a bit of Aligoté in 1998. It is textbook Aligoté with its bright acid finish. Traditionally, Aligoté is used for making Kir. So if inclined – add a bit of Cassis – otherwise pair alongside oysters, prawns or fresh goat cheese.

2014 Côtes du Rhône La Source, Mourchon $15.98 net price, $14.38 reorder
La Source is a classic blend of 6 Rhône varietals: Viognier, Grenache Blanc, Roussanne, Marsanne, Clairette, and Bourboulenc. The vines average 40 years of age. Flavors of underripe apricot and white peach dominate the palate. It works well with sushi, poke, ceviche and fresh spring rolls. A screw cap makes opening easy!

2014 Lugana, Ca’Lojera $15.99, $12.79 reorder
As summer’s bounty bursts to life at local farmers’ markets with dazzling aromas, colors, and flavors, we can’t help but feel the same for Ambra and Franco Tiraboshi’s Lugana and its panoply of expression. Fresh melons, stone fruit, orchard fruit, and a kiss of honey all linger on the palate. A great choice to pair with breaded flounder filets and fresh zucchini.


2013 Grüner Veltliner Liter, Hofer $14.98 net price, $13.48 reorder
Once the darling of hipster somms everywhere, Grüner Veltliner continues to enjoy a loyal following of those of us who love dry, crisp, herbaceous white wines; especially in the summer! Keeping it real, the Austrians bottle some of these in full liter size with beer bottle caps. A fresh green bean salad with green goddess dressing would be great with this.


2014 Rosé, Grange des Rouquette $7.95 sale price, $7.55 reorder
Here’s one for the anti-wine snob folks. Rosé made from 100% Syrah using the saignée method, or the bleeding off of the pink juice during fermentation of red wine. Rosé wines made using this technique tend to be rich, intense, and long lived. It is perfectly acceptable to enjoy this with an ice cube or two as you mow through an order of hot chicken wings.


2014 Garnacha, Santo Cristo $10.98 net price, $9.88 reorder
This 100% Garnacha, aka Grenache, is a perfect example of why so many believe that the best values for wine in the world come from Spain. The concentration and depth of flavor here is head scratching when considering the price tag. Juicy, deep plum and blackberry flavors are uplifted with spice and dusty tannins. Try it with Santa Maria style tri-tip.


2014 Monte Reale, Garofoli $11.98 net price, $10.78 reorder
Traveling east from Tuscany towards the Adriatic Sea, Sangiovese continues its dominance. In the Marche, Sangiovese is often lighter and fruitier. This makes for a pleasant, versatile drink. Monte Reale is entirely tank-fermented Sangiovese. Expect flavors of cherries, cherries, and more cherries. Pair with capellini tossed with fresh tomatoes and Genovese basil!


2015 Pinot Noir 375ml can, Underwood $5.98 net price, $5.38 reorder
A can of Pinot Noir? Sure, why not, we are not snobs! The innovative packaging is convenient for toting along on hikes, picnics in the park, floating down rivers, or any August activity that takes you outdoors. Inside the can is 100% Oregon Pinot Noir with its medium bodied cherry-laden fruit, soft tannins and notes of cola. Simply perfect with a deli sandwich.

2012 Ventoux Fayard, Domaine Fondrèche $16.99, $13.59 reorder
On a serious note, Domaine Fondrèche has the finest terroir in what was once called the Côte de Ventoux, on the eastern side just beneath snow capped Mont Ventoux. It’s half Grenache, all tank fermented. The other half is barrel aged Syrah and Mourvèdre which gives the wine depth, complexity, and texture. This calls for a dry rubbed beef tenderloin.


2012 Bergerac, Château Calabre $10.99, $8.79 reorder
Of course there’s a statue of Cyrano in Bergerac, but that’s not what the region is famous for. The red wines of Bergerac are composed of the same grapes one finds at the hallowed chateaux of nearby Bordeaux, but the pricing is much more appealing. This rustic blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon comes in screwcap; great for a picnic!


2010 Château La Gorre, Médoc $16.98 net price, $15.28 reorder
Speaking of Bordeaux, here we have a delicious, affordable Claret from the remarkable 2010 vintage. Full bodied with fine balance, the La Gorre outdrinks its price point considerably. It shows concentrated aromas of cassis, black cherry, and earthy mineral. When you see that perfect steak at the butcher, it’s great to know you have this waiting for it.

2013 Vernaccia di San Gimignano, Panizzi $16.98 net price, $15.28 reorder
The only white wine to reach DOCG status in Tuscany, Vernaccia di San Gimignano is famed for its floral bouquet and persistent acidity. True to the varietal, this one from Panizzi has a satisfying bitter almond finish. Straw-colored with greenish reflections, this white can start the meal with an antipasto platter then continue on with light pasta or fish.

2013 Bordeaux Blanc, Château Suau $14.98 net price, $13.48 reorder
Château Suau began converting to organic farming in 2008 after its proprietress came to the conclusion that using conventional products on the vines was having a harmful effect on vineyard workers. The soil here is a combination of clay and gravel. A charming citrus-laden white, serve chilled with fresh goat cheese or alongside grilled fish.

2015 Chardonnay, Milou $11.98 net price, $10.78 reorder
Hands down, one of the best values for Chardonnay, especially if you are looking for one that is simply fermented and attains its richness from the fruit and not from oak chips. The vines grow on marl soils with clay and limestone in south France’s Languedoc region. A harmonious marriage of peach and pineapple flavors, pair with poultry or pork dishes.

2013 Macon Les Tilles, Domaine Sainte Barbe $19.99, $15.99 reorder
Whoa! What’s going on here? White Bordeaux, and now white Burgundy? This is the Dirty Dozen, right? Sure, this direct-imported Mâcon is fresh and zesty, with layers of complexity ranging from pears and citrus, to dusty mineral and baking spices. There’s no new oak involved here, so tee this one up with things like crab salad or a lobster roll.


2014 Rose l’Instant, Domaine Fondrèche $12.95 sale price, $12.30 reorder
The perennial winner of the palest Rosé in da house award, we’re big fans of this sleek, crisp offering from the Rhône Valley’s Ventoux region. Sébastien Vincenti is the winemaker, and we have found (after years of experience) that his Rosé drinks very well into its second year! The faintest bit of red fruit suggests pairing it with a sunny day on the beach.


2013 Côtes-du-Rhône Blanc, Domaine Boudinaud $13.99, $11.19 reorder
TWH pals Thierry and Véronique Boudinaud have several vineyard sources to draw from, and this white is ALL Côtes-du-Rhône. It’s 60% Grenache Blanc and 40% Rousanne, so it’s fuller bodied and round on the palate, yet is fresh as a daisy. It’s another one that can be served as a cocktail wine, but bring it to the table and start carving that chicken!


2013 Minervois, Astruc Ste. Eulalie $13.98 net price, $12.58 reorder
A blend of Syrah, Carignan, and Grenache, this herb scented, dusty fruited red is medium bodied and pure. Languedoc’s Minervois appellation takes its name from the village of Minerve named after the Roman goddess of wisdom. This sun-drenched red will compliment a wide array of cuisines, particularly those found along the Mediterranean.


2012 Lagrein, Cortaccia $14.98 net price, $13.48 reorder
Lagrein is most likely native to Alto Adige, or Sudtirol, in northeast Italy. Despite the high elevations, during growing season days can reach warm temperatures to ripen grapes. At its best, Lagrein is noted for its deep plum and cherry flavors and firm acidic structure. It begs for food and pairs nicely with roasted and grilled red meats or strong cheeses.


2013 Bonarda, Argento $12.98 net price, $11.68 reorder
In Argentina, Bonarda is only second to Malbec in the number of plantings. It originally hails from France and also grows in the Napa Valley where it is known as Charbono. A late ripener, this rustic varietal produces deeply colored reds with strong tannins. Aromatically spicy with plumy fruit, match it with hearty, comfort foods, pizza or gourmet burgers.

2014 Malbec, Alberto Furque $14.99, $11.99 reorder
Representing one of the best value red wines in the shop, we’ve been big fans of the Furque’s Malbec for over a decade! What’s not to love? All tank-fermented, big bold aromas of purple fruits and olallieberries, the palate is full bodied, yet all in balance with sweet tannins. It’s another barbecue friendly red, we’re thinking cowboy steak with chimichurri.


2014 Luberon, Tour de l’Isle $15.59, $12.47 reorder
The bouquet of fresh purple and black berry fruit is up front and center at first whiff, but Robert Rocchi’s Tour de l’Isle Luberon has plenty of substance to seduce the taster to pour a second glass. It’s mostly Syrah, with some Grenache, Mourvèdre, and Cinsault blended in. Its light tannins make it a great all purpose red: Pizzas, pastas, meatballs, etc.


2012 Montravel Vieilles Vignes, Château Puy-Servain $19.99, $15.99 reorder
Last but certainly not least is Daniel Hecquet’s ringer of a Montravel that we feel can hold its own in a blind Saint Emilion tasting. Made from 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, it has bold aromas of brambly fruit, a hint of spice, and a touch of mocha. On the palate it is firm, yet fruity; the red to open up with good company and rack of lamb.

Alas, April is upon us. Spring is officially here, the days are longer, and it’s time to reintroduce ourselves to the great outdoors! 2014 Grechetto, Argillae $14.98 Net Price, $13.48 Reorder
If you’ve had Orvieto, then chances are you’ve tasted Grechetto but maybe didn’t know it. Along with Procanico, Grechetto makes up the majority blend of Orvieto. It has become fashionable to bottle this grape on its own, highlighting its beautiful floral character. Aromatic and crisp, this straw-yellow wine is delicious with dumplings, ravioli, or manti.

2014 Rueda, Casamaro $12.98 Net Price, $11.68 Reorder
At Casamaro the soil differs from much of Rueda because the vines grow on sand. Sand provides excellent drainage for the vines, many of which are over 100 years old! It is all free-run juice that is bottled straight from the tank. Lots of lemon and citrus fruit on the palate; it’s a luscious sipper, or it’ll pair well with patatas bravas smothered in garlicky aioli.

2014 Trebbiano d’Abruzzo Sunnae, Col del Mondo $10.98 Net Price, $9.88 Reorder
The Sunnae makes its yearly appearance in the DD. Col del Mondo takes the humble Trebbiano and turns it into some-thing quite special by giving the care and attention the varietal needs to perform at its best; low yields, crop thinning and hand harvesting. White blossoms and delicate peach flavors dominate. Enjoy with a Cobb salad or pan fried trout.

2014 Rosé À Lisa, Domaine des Aspras $12.99, $10.39 Reorder
Brand new to us here at TWH, Domaine des Aspras is located in the Provençal village of Correns. The village was the locale of a famous Hollywood couple’s wedding. It also has the distinction of being the first wine village in France to farm organically in its entirety. The À Lisa Rosé is dry with floral aromas. Pair with light fare such as a Salade Niçoise.


2014 Château Couronneau Blanc $15.98 Net Price, $14.38 Reorder
Speaking of organic, Christophe Piat has been farming organically for several years, and has now earned Demeter certified Bio status. Here he blends 50% Sauvignon Blanc with Sauvignon Gris to give this dry white Bordeaux a fleshy middle. It’s a great little springtime bistro white. Fresh and expressive, pair it with a bowl of mussels and chillax.


2011 Vouvray Les Coudraies, Domaine d’Orseilles $20.79, $16.63 Reorder
Vouvray comes in varying degrees of sweetness, and this one is demi sec, which means it’s off-dry, or has a little sweetness to it. Don’t be put off by this, as sweet wines deserve a place at the dinner table. Ever try to pair a bone dry wine with hot and spicy Kung Pao Chicken? It doesn’t work, but this will. It will work with Shrimp Pad Kee Mao also.


2012 Minervois Grande Tradition, Château du Donjon $16.98 Net Price, $15.28 Reorder
Minervois, one of the oldest wine producing regions in the Languedoc, is especially beloved here at TWH. The old-world character shows through the sweet, ripe fruit. Equal parts Syrah and Grenache with a dose of Carignan, lending its telltale funk, this red is firm and structured yet sees no oak. Leg of lamb with spring veggies will match up nicely here!


2010 Garnacha Reserva, Campos de Luz $11.98 Net Price, $10.78 Reorder
Many of the Garnacha vines on this estate range in age from 40-80 years old. The Reserva is primarily Grenache with a bit of Cabernet Sauvignon added to give it a structural backbone. Aged in oak for 18 months, the wine takes on a smooth, polished feel. The fruit flavors have mellowed and tamed into a cohesive blend. Serve with sweet-glazed wings or ribs.


2014 Pinot Noir, Underwood $11.98 Net Price, $10.78 Reorder
The folks behind Underwood have mastered the art of blending, using fruit from sites all over the state of Oregon to create an affordable, delicious Pinot Noir. Fresh, juicy cherry flavors mash up with hints of cola. The screw cap enclosure makes it perfect for picnics or for boisterous parties. Serve with meat pies, roast chicken or curry dishes.

2012 Tradicional, Quinta do Alqueve $11.29, $9.03 Reorder
The Tradicional has been one of TWH staff’s go-to inexpensive reds for many vintages; and we still scratch our heads and wonder how they can make a wine this good and charge so little. It’s made from four grapes: Touriga Nacional, Castelão, Tinta Roriz, and Trincadeira. Just pop and pour with any of your favorite red wine friendly dishes or a deep dish pizza.


2013 Barco Reale di Carmignano, Le Farnete $14.59, $11.67 Reorder
The “baby brother” of Enrico Pierazzuoli’s Carmignano DOCG, this Barco Reale can serve as a handy spaghetti red. It’s made from 80% Sangiovese blended with Cabernet Sauvignon, which has been legal to grow in the appellation since Medici times. It has lovely red and purple fruity aromas and a medium bodied bright mouth feel. Yeah. Spaghetti red.


2013 Touraine Rouge, Domaine des Corbillières $15.99, $12.79 Reorder
Loire Valley wine lovers have a soft spot for the herbal, stemmy character of the native Cabernet Franc, and we have a soft spot for the wines from Domaine des Corbillières. Here they blend in a little Pinot Noir and Malbec for aromatic complexity and backbone, and the resulting juice is rustic and medium in body. It’s a solid red partner for roast chicken.

2014 Ventoux Rosé l’Instant, Domaine de Fondrèche $16.29, $13.03 reorder
In the eastern section of the southern Rhône Valley, Sébastien Vincenti makes some fine wine in the Ventoux appellation. His Rosé l’Instant is another great example of a southern French Rosé made in the Provençal style. It’s sleek and crisp with hints of citrus and dried flowers. It’s a great food wine and will pair best with a seared ahi tuna salad Niçoise.

2013 Hors Saison, Domaine La Hitaire $13.99, $11.19 reorder
From the Côtes de Gascogne in southwest France comes this snappy little sipper inspired by the white blends from Bordeaux. 85% Sauvignon Blanc and a little Sémillon combine for a bright, fresh, citrus-like aromatic profile. The palate is light and the finish clean. A versatile table white, salads work well, especially those with goat cheese.

2012 Unoaked Chardonnay, The Winery of Good Hope $13.49, $10.79 reorder
Englishman Alex Dale grew up with wine, and in the 1990’s he invested in vineyards near Capetown, South Africa, and founded The Winery of Good Hope. No fancy label, no marketing, it’s all about the wine. 100% unoaked Chardonnay is what you get, no tricks, no makeup. The screwcap enclosure makes it great with picnics and chicken salad sandwiches.

2014 Entre-Deux-Mers, Tertre de Launay $11.98 net price, $10.78 reorder
The Greffier family has been making wine for over 6 generations and exporting Chateau Tertre de Launay to the US for nearly 40 years. We think they’ve got this thing down. A classic Bordelaise blend of Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon, and Muscadelle goes into this intense, yet classy wine. Apart from shellfish, try it with grilled lemony-chicken.

2014 Xarel-lo, Bohigas $10.98 net price, $9.88 reorder
Bohigas, a family-run winery an hour north of Barcelona, can trace their history back to the 13th century. Today, father and daughter make a dry white from Xarel-lo, best known for being one of three grapes used for Cava. Zippy flavors of pineapple and white fruit are supported by a solid acid backbone. At the end of the 18th century, after working at Roederer and Delbeck in Reims, József Törley returned home to Hungary to make sparkling wine. His image is on the neck of every Törley bottle. The Gála Sec is indeed dry and made up of three varietals, Grüner Veltliner, Riesling, and Királyleányka. A Prosecco look-alike; it’s yummy with fried chicken.

2013 Poggio d’Elsa, Bruni $12.98 net price, $11.68 reorder
A 50/50 blend of Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon, this hearty red from the wine region of Maremma, along Tuscany’s coastal flank, offers up ripe flavors of Morello cherries and black plums wrapped up in a smooth tannin finish. Beef brochettes topped with a pungent salsa verde would do nicely here, especially served outside on the terrazza.

2011 Minervois Cuvée Spéciale, Chateau de Paraza $11.98 net price, $10.78 reorder
After a period of neglect, the Danglas family has brought this historical estate back to its former glory. Along with renovation of the château, emphasis has been on elevating wine quality. The Cuvée Spéciale is a blend of 40% Syrah, 40% Grenache, and the rest Mourvèdre. Spicy, juicy, round and delicious! Try with flavors inspired by the Middle East.

2013 Santofimia, Niel $10.98 net price, $9.88 reorder
Black as night in the glass, this Garnacha Tintorera, aka Alicante Bouchet, is a bold, zesty Spanish red wine. The vines are 30 years of age on average and are grown at high altitudes in nutrient-poor soils. Blackberry liqueur and juicy cassis fruit flavors are backed up with formidable acidity. It’s a tooth-stainer! Try with bleu cheese topped grilled steak.

2013 Merlot, Domaine Saint Antoine $11.49, $9.19 reorder
We’ve been carrying the wines from Domaine Saint Antoine for well over a decade, one of the main reasons is for the price, they’re quite a deal! This Merlot is not to be taken lightly. It speaks of ripe cassis and cherries, tobacco and lavender. Tee up a rotisserie chicken, baked potatoes with parmesan cheese sprinkled on top, and asparagus. Yum.

You may have heard us extoll the virtues of Thierry Boudinaud and the panoply of wines he produces from in and around the southern Rhône. This Syrah/Grenache blend is all business; all tank-fermented, so it’s pure and fresh. What you get are aromas of red and purple berries, a medium-bodied palate and a bright finish. A great all-purpose table red.

2011 Costières de Nîmes Cuvée Trassegum, Château d’Or et de Gueules $22.99, $18.39 reorder
Cuvée Trassegum. In the local Occitan dialect it means “love potion,” and we are smitten. This is serious stuff here. Wine wizard Diane Puymorin blends 20% each Carignan and Mourvèdre (both from 80 year old vines) with Syrah and the result is spectacular. Get the fancy stemware out, grill up a nice grass-fed ribeye and share it with someone special!

2013 Domaine de la Petite Cassagne Blanc $11.99, $9.59 reorder

White wines from the Rhône Valley are some of the best bang-for-your-buck wines in the world! This one is a blend of 50% Rolle (some call it Vermentino), 30% Grenache Blanc, and 20% Roussanne, all tank-fermented with fresh and lively fruit expression. This is best served with light summer salads or avocado bruschetta drizzled with balsamic vinegar.

2012 Chenin Blanc, Blue Plate $10.98 net price, $9.88 reorder

Here’s a Chenin Blanc grown sustainably in the Sacramento Delta commune of Clarksburg. It is pure sunny, melon-laden and tropical-tinged juice. The fruit is picked early to keep acids fresh and sugars in check. Fleshy, yet dry, this versatile white pairs up well with fried chicken and all the traditional sides.

This dry Riesling works with all of them.

Tulum Valley, Argentina is north of Mendoza. The vines there grow at elevations exceeding 2000 feet. The combination of Chardonnay and Torrontes makes for a fragrant yet perky, clean wine. Wait. What??? 2010 Left Bank Bordeaux in the Dirty Dozen? You bet. 2010 was one of the best vintages in the region in recent memory. La Gorre is another producer located in the village of Bégadan, and their 2010 is expressive and balanced. Winemaker Sébastien Vincenti has one of the best locales in all of Ventoux, and continues to churn out expressive wines with charm and complexity. 2013 Sauvignon Blanc, Pomelo $10.98, $9.88 reorder

Randy Mason began his Napa Valley wine career in 1974 working for Chappellet. Pomelo is the name given to Mason Cellars’ 100% stainless steel Sauvignon Blanc from mostly Lake County fruit. Fragrant, explosive grapefruit aromatics give way to guava and lime peel flavors. Refreshing! Try with tiger prawn ceviche, goat cheese pizza or rotisserie chicken.

2013 Blanco, Ercavio $11.98, $10.78 reorder

30 miles east of Toledo grow the old bush vines (40+ years) of Airén that go into this tongue-sizzling crisp blanco. Grown at high altitudes in Spain’s interior where dry conditions favor this drought-resistant varietal, the Ercavio Blanco flaunts flavors of blossoms, fresh apples and cut grass. Spring greens and fresh peas would do nicely as an accompaniment.

2013 Entre-Deux-Mers, Tertre de Launay $11.98, $10.78 reorder

The high percentage of Muscadelle, around 20%, catapults this lovely Bordeaux white into the realm of complexity and finesse. Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc round out the blend, lending creamy flavors of apple and citrus. It is certainly lovely solo, but shines when paired with flaky white fish dishes, deep-fried shellfish or briny raw oysters.

2013 Rosé, Grange des Rouquette $10.49, $8.39 reorder

Now that some warm weather has kicked in here and there, it’s not just diehard Rosé lovers drinking pink these days! The Grange des Rouquette Rosé, made from 100% Syrah, is for everyone who loves dry Rosé with a little structure. Ample red fruit can be detected in the aromas and palate, and the finish is dry and crisp. Pair it with your saucisson.

2012 Pinot Auxerrois, Domaine Ehrhart $16.99, $13.59 reorder

TWH pals Corinne and Philippe Ehrhart grow this clone of Pinot Blanc in the Val St. Gregoire vineyard in the village of Turckheim. It offers rich aromas of apples and peaches, a round mouth feel and finishes with hints of white pepper. A very versatile wine, it’s round enough to drink by itself, yet its 1-2 punch of fruit/acidity will go well with fish tacos.

2012 Touraine Blanc, Domaine des Corbillières $15.49, $12.39 reorder

Regular DD subscribers will have no problem recognizing the Corbillières logo on the label. They’ve made their way into the Dirty Dozen via their Rosé and red Touraines, and of course their Touraine Sauvignon Blanc. Crisp citrus blossom fruit permeates the nose, and the palate is lively with a fruity middle. It’s a great wine to sip with a salad with goat cheese.

2012 Bordeaux, Tour de Luchey $11.98 net price, $10.78 reorder

A charming Bordeaux which sees no time in wood, Tour de Luchey is Merlot with a little Cabernet. Fermented in stainless steel and cement vats, it showcases flavors of cassis and plum – the fruit flavors are further complimented by fresh thyme and green herb notes. A slow-cooked roast is perfectly acceptable to pair here. Invite the whole gang!

2013 Rosso, Gran Passione $11.98, $10.78 reorder

Mostly Merlot with some Corvina, this red wine from Italy’s Veneto region takes its cue from Amarone. The grapes are harvested quite late, concentrating flavors and sugars. Extended skin contact during fermentation further amplifies flavors. This wine is brawny, chewy and ideal for deeply flavored, inexpensive cuts of meats and aged dry cheeses.

2010 The Chemist, Smoke Screen Cellars $14.98, $13.48 reorder

Seven, yes seven, varieties go into this playful, tasty California red blend. By combining Rhone and Bordeaux varietals, winemaker Gary Galleron, whose resume includes Grace Family and Vineyard 29, achieves richness with a supple tannin finish and lush fruit flavors. What’s not to like here? Serve alongside smokey bbq, spicy sausages or chili con carne.

2013 Malbec, Alberto Furque $14.99, $11.99 reorder

May is national barbecue month, and if you’re smoking a brisket, you’re gonna want this here bottle of Malbec to go with it! Grown at elevations of around 3000 ft above sea level, the Alberto Furque Malbec is pure pleasure. From the bodega’s oldest vines, it’s raised in concrete and stainless steel tank, pure and fresh, all plums and dark currents.

2012 Côtes-du-Rhône la Boissière, Domaine Boudinaud $13.49, $10.79 reorder

Thierry Boudinaud grows some pretty snazzy vines in and around the southern Rhône Valley. The fruit for his la Boissière comes from the Côtes-du-Rhône appellation, one of the best bang-for-our-buck wine regions in the world. Medium body, balanced red and purple fruit, and an easy finish: here’s your all-purpose red. Pizzas and pastas made to order!

2011 Cabernet Sauvignon, Vinum Africa $17.99, $14.39 reorder

Speaking of national barbecue month, this delightful Cabernet Sauvignon will serve smoky, grilled fare well. It’s got plenty of dark currant and cassis fruit, brambly herbal aromas, and a rich, sturdy structure. If the aforementioned Malbec evaporates too quickly before that brisket is gone, it’d be prudent to have this as a backup.
